Who you’ll learn from

Professor Matthias Holweg

American Standard Companies Professor of Operations Management, Programme Director, Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme and Academic Director, Oxford AI Ethics, Regulation and Compliance Programme.

Matthias is a leading expert in digital operations and the application of AI to improve business processes. He is particularly interested in exploring how AI can enhance processes and, conversely, how best practices in process management can improve the operation of AI systems. His recent work examines the lifecycle management of AI systems, from development and deployment to operations and retirement, with an emphasis on ensuring their trustworthiness. In collaboration with colleagues at the Oxford Internet Institute and Oxford Saïd, he co-developed a proof-of-concept for an ethics-based audit protocol for AI systems. Additionally, he is investigating the potential failure modes of AI applications in light of regulatory efforts to mitigate ethical risks. In his recent publications, Matthias explores the intersection of artificial intelligence and Lean Six Sigma, discussing ways in which AI can augment process improvement activities. Professor Holweg has been instrumental in developing the hands-on agent building approach that makes this intensive course format uniquely practical.

Oxford Generative AI in Practice is a competency-based, applied learning experience designed to complement executive education programmes in our portfolio that focus on AI strategy, leadership, and compliance. It provides a next step practical development pathway for professionals supporting the implementation of AI across teams, departments or systems.

While flagship programmes like the Oxford Artificial Intelligence Programme help senior executives create and deliver strategic value, this intensive online course equips  participants equipped with practical frameworks to enhance productivity, innovation, and organisational readiness for widespread AI adoption.

This intensive course, delivered in partnership with Next Gen Learning, offers a flexible, high-impact format that builds digital confidence, fosters alignment, and contributes to institution-wide readiness for AI adoption.
